Best practices

Please name the modifiers and modifier groups according to the below:

o   Modifiers: Brand + Country + modifier + quantity in case there is more than one quantity. Eg: “BK UK American cheese 2 slcs”

o  Modifier Groups: Brand + Country + clear modifier group name for your reference. Eg: “BK UK Small Burgers”

Create a menu item for each modifier

For each ingredient you want to be able to add/remove in a menu item (=modifier), you have to create a menu item with the specific ingredient's speq #, quantity and unit.

In order to do this, you can either:

  • Preferred: Launch a “New Menu item PIF” (flagging on the PIF description that this is supposed to be expedited since it contains an existing ingredient and we need it for the website & app)

    • Please fill in the following information:

      • Item Name

      • Region

      • Country

      • Item status: Active

      • Daypart menu: All

      • Activation data: any past date

      • Suggested product: link with existing product. In case this product (BKPN) does not exist (rare), please ask the Marketing Analytics team to create it.

      • Sold as type: BK - delete all except for condiments; PLK – A la carte

      • Save (not “Save and close”, just “Save” so you can see the “Build information” field)

      • Build information: “+”

        a.     Ingredient: SPEQ number (if you don’t know the SPEQ number, go to a menu item that contains that ingredient and look at the SPEQ number of that ingredient in “Build information” (first number on the ingredient name)

        b.     Amount -> Quantity & Units - choose the default quantity & units for this ingredient (eg: 1 slice)

        c.      Save and close

      • Allows modification? Yes

      • Save and close

Modifiers & modifier groups workflow

  1. Launch a “Maintain Modifier Workflow” (MDM product perspective → All product tables → Actions → Launch Maintain Modifier Workflow). If you do not have access to this workflow, please contact RBIMDS@rbi.com .

  2. Update/add necessary content

  3. When you are done making changes, click ‘Send for review’ at the top left of the page → ‘OK’

Update/add necessary content

You can either start by:

Create a modifier group

  1. Details (Bottom one) → Modifier Group → “+”

    1. Name (eg: “BK UK Small Burgers”)

    2. Country

    3. Region

    4. Save

  2. Inside the modifier group you have just created

    1. If you have created the modifier before, follow these steps:

      1. Modifiers → Actions → Associate → Choose the modifiers that apply and click on “Associate”

      2. Save and close

    2. If you haven’t yet created the modifier, click “+” and follow the steps on the modifier section starting from “a.”

Create a modifier

  1. Go to modifiers → actions → create a record

    1. Name (eg: “BK UK American Cheese – 2 slcs”)

    2. Country: Great Britain

    3. Menu item (click on the dropdown + choose the menu item you have created here)

    4. Multiplier: If you multiply the ingredient base quantity by the multiplier, you should get the right quantities for when the guest clicks on “No/Remove”, “Regular” and “Extra” (eg: 0, 1, 2) on the website & app
Note: please always insert (0,1) for all modifiers that you want to be able to remove (normally, all modifiers except for patties*) and then override this multiplier when applicable with ingredient multipliers
*Patties are often differently configured since we may not want to give guests the option to remove, for example, a whopper patty from the Whopper. In this case, the default modifier multiplier will be (1,2)
Eg: American Cheese 2 slcs will have (0,1) as multipliers and then, on the menu items that already have cheese on their original build, you will add the ingredient multiplier (0,1,1.5) in case you want the guest to be able to either remove cheese, add 1 slc of cheese or ingredient multiplier (0,1,2) in case you want the guest to be able to remove cheese or add 2 slcs of cheese.

    5. Quantity Override: multiply the ingredient base quantity (eg: if you insert 2 for the cheese slice, it means that whatever you are multiplying the modifier multiplier by 2)

    6. Save and close

Ingredient multiplier

In case you have a menu item that is associated with a certain modifier that should have different modifier multipliers that the default ones, you can overwrite the modifier multipliers for that menu item only by using the ingredient multiplier feature provided that this modifier is included on the menu item’s original build:

  1. Select the menu item you want to edit: Menu item → look for the correct menu item using the id filter (open the menu item)

  2. Scroll down until you find ‘Build information’ → double click on the ingredient you want to edit

  3. You will see the modifier multiplier (default) and then you can select the ingredient multiplier that will overwrite that field for this menu item only

Note: if you want to be able to add or remove an ingredient from a menu item, you must always associate a modifier containing that ingredient with that menu item, regardless of whether or not the ingredient you want to add/remove is included on the original build. For example, you should never see this on a menu item:

Here we can see that, for specific ingredients, the modifier multiplier column is empty and the ingredient multiplier column is populated. This is wrong - it means you did not associate the modifiers that contains the same ingredients with this menu item, and hence you do not see the default modifier multipliers that need to be overwritten by the ingredient multiplier column. You should only update the ingredient multiplier column to override existing values on the modifier multiplier column.

Associate modifier groups with menu items

You can associate modifier groups with menu items in 2 different ways:

  1. By accessing the modifier group and associating the menu items

    1. Details (the bottom one) → Modifier Group → double click on the modifier group you would like to associate menu items to

    2. Click on the “Modifies menu items” section

    3. Click on the “+”

    4. Choose the correct menu item (click on the arrow at the right of the box → selector → filter the correct id → click “select”)

    5. Add (“+”) the excluded modifiers that are part of the modifier group and should not be included as a modifier for this specific menu item

    6. Save and close

  2. By accessing a specific menu item and associating the modifier group and/or modifiers that apply

    1. Menu item → look for the correct menu item using the id filter (open the menu item)

    2. Scroll down until you see Modifier Groups

    3. Click on “+” on either Modifier Groups

    4. Add (“+”) the excluded modifiers that are part of the modifier group and should not be included as a modifier for this specific menu item

Associate modifiers (directly) with menu items

  1. Menu item → look for the correct menu item using the id filter (open the menu item)

  2. Scroll down until you see “Modifiers”

  3. Click on “+” on the modifiers section to associate the modifier you have created here
