Overview
What is a Combo?
Combos are a unique combination of items defined by one PLU.
These are what you might know in the restaurant as Meals, for example Medium Meal (Burger + Medium Fries + Drink) or Large Meal (Burger + Big Fries + Big Drink). In the digital landscape, we call them Combos.
Special Note about Combos
Combo Documents might not only be limited to Meals, it can potentially be part of the configuration of an offer
Letβs have a look at the Impossible Whopper Meal Medium π π π₯
We have defined that this Combo will be composed by:
Impossible Whopper (the sandwich)
Medium Side (defaulted to Medium Classic Fries)
Medium Drink (defaulted to Medium Coca-Cola)
Editing Combos
Name
This is the name of the combo that will show in the platform, so must be edited according to your marketing guidelines.
Ensure naming is consistent across all different combos so structure is always the same
Internal Name
The name that will be displayed in Sanity - it will help you quickly identify and organize your pickers.
Description
This is the description for the combo once it is clicked on. This description only appears if the combo is not part of a Picker , otherwise the Picker description will show.
Image
This is the image that is shown for the picker.
Best Practices Tip
Remember choosing a picture without a background will look better, remove noise, and turn the guestβs focus to the actual purchase π π
Image Description
This will be the text for the alt attribute on the image.
Main Item
This is the main item of your combo. In this case, the Impossible Whopper π
The reason why we differentiate the main item from the rest of the items is because some POS (Point of Sales) require us to make such distinction.
Options
These are the options you can select with your Combo.
You will configure these in the Combo Slots section and then apply to all the Combos you want.
In other words, you will configure this once and then just map it to the Combos. You will likely have a limited set of combinations that you want to offer with Combos, since the Impossible Whopper, the Whopper, or the Big King will likely sell with the same options of Sides (Fries, Onions Rings) and Drinks.
Followingly, the examples defined for our Impossible Whopper Medium Meal.
Combo Sides - If your POS vendor is NCR you will need to create a marker item.
Medium Combo Sides - what sides do you want to sell with your Medium Combo? In our case, we are selling the Medium Calssic Fries, and the Medium Onion Rings, defaulted to the Fries, which our guests tend to prefer π
Medium Combo Drinks - what drinks do you want to sell with your Medium Combo? In our case, we are selling the usual drinks our guests love, defaulted to the famous Medium Coca-Cola π₯
Channel Exclusions
Need to show different items depending on the Service Mode Group (Pickup / Delivery) or the platform (Web, Mobile, Kiosk, Google Food Ordering)? This is the place where you can exclude items from being shown to the guests.

Vendor Configs
This is where the PLU configurations are done.
In your brand and country Sanity environment, you will see the Service Mode Groups (Pickup and Delivery) and POS used, as well as the Tablet system in place, in case some restaurants use a POS without order injection integration.
In the example above, please note that rPOS will include the PLU of items for all Pickup service modes (Takeaway, Dine-in, Drive-thru, Curbside), whereas rPOS Delivery refers to the PLU of items for delivery only.
For each Service Mode Group (Pickup and Delivery), you will need to configure the correct PLU.
The Vendor Configs play a key role at our systems, as they are the bridge between the digital and the physical world. For that reason, we have created a comprehensive guide just for this topic.
Settings
You can limit the amount of this item that can be added to the cart. In that case, the guest will face a scenario where no more units can be added after a certain amount.

Other Selections
For easiness of explanation, all the other selections you can make throughout the Items file have been grouped in this part of the guide.

Show in Static Menu will allow displaying the item in the Static Menu, before a Service Mode or store is selected. This is the equivalent to your National Menu, but it does not mean all of the items are available for purchase for Delivery or Pickup, for example.
Force Modifiers to Bottom indicates if the modifiers for the main Item (the Impossible Whopper sandwich in this case) and any combo Slots (modifier options for that item, such as Ketchup, Mayo, etc.) should be dropped down and displayed after all combo Slots instead of directly under the item/combo Slot they pertain to. Artiaga, Patricia with menu redesign this is gone right? - yep
