This is the Project Brief for BK UK’s Oracle Rollout project.
Contents
Project Overview
Executive Summary
This project for BK UK aims to replace their current POS vendor (NCR Aloha) with Oracle, across all of their restaurant estate. This project in particular aims to roll-out Oracle in the first 5 pilot restaurants, which include the different format restaurants, for e.g. Dark Kitchen, Mobile Ordering, Loyalty and Acrelec kiosk restaurants.
Project Type
Technical project. The goal is to replace NCR with Oracle, like-for-like, with no other capabilities enabled.
Project Scope
Current Technology Stack
Composed of:
NCR Aloha POS
Acrelec kiosk
Deliverect (acts as aggregator to receive 3rd party orders and inject into POS)
RBI Orders API
RBI Loyalty API
RBI Guest App (supporting Delivery orders only) ?
With the following integrations:
NCR Aloha POS integrated with the RBI Orders API to process delivery orders made via the RBI Guest App
NCR Aloha POS integrated with the RBI Loyalty API for loyalty points earn/burn during in-store orders
Acrelec kiosk integrated with the RBI Loyalty API for loyalty points earn/burn during in-store orders
Acrelec kiosk integrated with NCR Aloha POS to support the Pay at Counter flow during in-store orders
Proposed Changes
The main change is the replacement of NCR Aloha POS with Oracle Symphony POS, running on a Multi-Tenant Environment (MTE) created by Oracle specifically for BK UK. This will require:
Oracle to extend the existing Orders and Loyalty integrations to support BKUK-specific requirements (see relevant section below);
Acrelec to develop an integration with Oracle POS to support the Pay at Counter flow.
Out of Scope
Kiosk vendors other than Acrelec;
Changes to the existing RBI integration with Deliverect;
Capabilities not currently supported by NCR Aloha POS?
Market-Specific Requirements

Loyalty
Requirement | Owner | Status | Status Updates | Impact |
---|---|---|---|---|
Supporting offer and reward discounts | Oracle | to do | Unlike BK DE and BK NL, BK UK uses offer discounts. Offer discounts are used as systemwide and personalized offers. More information here: https://rbictg.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/HELP/pages/4932501574 and https://rbictg.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/RDP/pages/4227268757/Redeem+discounts?search_id=c79f39e7-b169-43a9-854c-41dda7ee69e2 | REQUIRED to enable Loyalty |
Pay@Counter between Acrelec and Oracle is supported | BK UK and Oracle | to do | BK UK currently support pay@counter: guests that place an order at the kiosk with cash and need to finish the order at the POS. More information here: Kiosk - Edge Cases | 2. Order in the kiosk and pay at counter | REQUIRED to enable Loyalty |
Static Codes for all offers | Oracle | to do | BK UK does not have loyalty in all markets and this means that they also show the static code of offers in the app. Oracle needs to support receiving either the dynamic 6 digit loyalty code as well as static code for offers to be redeemed. | REQUIRED to enable Loyalty |
Multi-scanning | Oracle | to do | Multi scanning is recomended to work in the scenario of only allowing one offer per order for BK UK. Presented to Oracle the customer journey scenarios. Given it is not live in the market today, it can be launched without this feature. | Not REQUIRED to enable Loyalty |
