Overview
What is a Combo Slot?
A Combo Slot is a document that will always be tagged to a combo and will contain a set of items where the user can choose in order to build their combo. When you select a combo you know what main item you are going to get but not which side or drink, as there is a wide variety you can choose from. Comboslots will host all the options for each of these characteristics (Sides, Drinks…) to make the UI more user friendly. The reason we create this in a new document rather than in the combo document itself is because we want the user to be able to select only one or multiple of those items but not all (for example, you will have one comboslot that is Medium Sides and one that is Medium Drinks).
When you sell Meals, chances are you usually provide similar options to your guests. For example, selling Meals of a Whopper, Big King, or Double Cheeseburger will typically not change the fact that you offer the same Sides (Fries, Onion Rings, etc.) and Drinks (Coca-Cola, Fanta, etc.)
For that reason, we have created a simple way for you to configure Combo Slots that then can be mapped to your Combos. This way, you configure once your options and then apply to all the different Combos, instead of adding the same 20 drinks and sides, one by one, to every different Combo.
This does not change the fact you might want to offer different selections, for example for a special LTO, or a Family Combo you create with several different options. Combo Slots will make your life easier but not that much 😆

Vendor Configs
Vendor Configs for Combo Slots are always meant to be set to ignore
The reason for this is your POS vendor wont have a PLU for Medium Sides, they would have a PLU for Medium Fries. We want to ensure that the POS reads the correct information, and setting it to ignore will tell the system that it needs to read the PLU of the item the user has chosen in the comb slot.
**Items as Combo Slots
This is a special case for Offers and PLK Bone-In Chicken
There are offers where you might for the user to be able to select between 2 different items (Choose between a Chicken Royale or a Whopper for 5$). In a normal menu case, you would set this up as a picker and set each option as a picker aspect. However, offers don't have the concept of picker so we use the combo slots as a helper for us to be able to create these kinds of offers.
With this offer you would create an offer document for the offer.
Create a combo document for the offer and create a comb slot with both options, setting the min and max to 1 forcing the user to chose one option.
Then you should link this comboslot to the combo within the offer.
Then you are able to offer the guest a choice within the main item
Unique to PLK, BIC requires we structure as Combo Slots with the components as the default cuts for the item. Guests are unable to modify this in any way.
