đź“Ś Context

  • BK DE uses RBI Tech’s platform (web and app).

  • In terms of mobile ordering in the tech platform,

    • Delivery is available for a subset of stores (~150 BK DE Master Franchisee stores).

    • Click & collect is not available.

  • To enable delivery, RBI built an integration into “SIDES” (previously known as “Simply Delivery”).

    • When a guest places a delivery order:

      • RBI sends the delivery order to a SIDES tablet.

      • SIDES tablet is next to a delivery dedicated POS, located in the restaurant’s kitchen.

      • Team member manually keys in the order into the POS.

From an RBI standpoint, SIDES is treated as a POS integration. This is important because we only support one POS integration per restaurant.

Note that SIDES has attempted to integrate with Toshiba, but BK DE shared the integration is not reliable.

  • Delivery fulfillment is done by own drivers. SIDES also takes care of driver management.

    • Team member will assign the order to an own driver. Drivers have a SIDES app which provides delivery instructions.

    • Note that SIDES has built an integration into UberDirect, which will allow 1P delivery orders to be delivered with UberEats drivers. BK DE is currently testing this integration.

    • All DE restaurants currently use Toshiba as the POS. BK DE is replacing Toshiba POS with Oracle POS.

      • Target is to roll out 75 restaurant with Oracle POS by end of 2024. - To be confirmed.

(blue star) Problem / Opportunity

  • BK DE wants to enable Click & Collect to (1) stores that already have 1P delivery and (2) the rest of stores.

  • We need a solution for Toshiba stores. The solution should not be dependent on rolling out Oracle POS, because current target is only 75 restaurant by end of year.

🔍 Summary

For Oracle restaurants – in progress: Khumbu middleware to inject orders into the Oracle POS.

For Toshiba restaurants:

  • Cost (TBD)

2

Build integration with Smoothr

  • Enables POS order injection, removing manual entry via tablet.

  • Integration would flow via Partner API, removing custom SIDES integration.

  • Requires Partner API to be updated to support multiple POS. Item addressed in Q3 Planning.
