Menu Document & Sections
Sections
Sections are main categories shown on the header of the menu home page, containing pickers, meals, and/or items. Configured under Order-Level Content → Menu → Section within Sanity.
Sections Navigation
Within both the mobile and the web application, as the guest scrolls through the list of products, the tab bar on the top updates to reflect the current section of the user.
Similarly, the guests can horizontally scroll through the list of sections from the top and click to navigate to that section in the one-page full menu.
Section Fields within Sanity | Description |
---|---|
Name | This is the name that will be displayed for the section. Make sure to also fill in the translations fields if your market support multiple languages. |
Carousel Image | This is the image that will appear on the carousel when you click on a section. This image should not have a background. |
Image | This is the image that will be displayed on the menu as a tile (/menu). |
Image Description | This will be used as the alt or aria-label attribute for the image. This is required for accessibility purposes. An alt attribute is what shows if the image is unable to load and upon a mouse hover-over. |
Daypart | This will be used to display the section only on the dayparts you have selected. If you haven’t selected any it will appear in all. |
Options | Everything you would like to include in the section. You can select pickers, combos and items. |
Show in Static Menu | Please toggle this on in case you want to this section to appear on the static menu (i.e., menu guests see in /menu when they haven’t selected a restaurant yet). |
Menu Document
On Sanity, Order-Level Content → Menu → Menu leads to the Menu Document. This document is used to determine which sections/pickers/combos/items are to be displayed in the application menu page as the first entry point of categories in the menu.
We recommend to put sections under this document as main categories, as shown in the example below:
Sections create helpful groups which ease menu navigation for guests. E.g. Flame-Grilled burgers.
Note that the sections are added under the ‘options’ in the order that we display them in the website and app. To move sections up and down, you can drag and drop them using the 6 little dots on the left.
Only a single menu document is sufficient to build the menu in the RBI web & app.
Setting Up the Menu Document
To set up the menu you will need to click on the ‘create' button flagged in red below. Give it a descriptive name (e.g. ‘Main Menu’ or ‘BK Menu’) and add the sections/pickers/combos/items you would like your menu to display. You can add them by clicking on '+ Add item…' under ‘Options’.
Feature Static Menu
If a user already has items in the cart and selects a different store or service mode, one or more items could be unavailable. For example, the selected store could run out of ingredients or might not serve that specific menu item. In these cases, a modal will be presented to the user stating the below item(s) are not available.
Feature Static Menu is the feature to configure the Item Unavailable Modal above. It could be set up as follows via Marketing Content → Features → Feature Static Menu.
First, configure the header of the modal:
Then, configure the body text of the modal.
And lastly, configure the image of the modal.
