Introduction to Combos & Combo Slots
A Combo is a unique combination of items defined by one PLU (e.g. Whopper Large Menu), whereas a Combo Slot is a document that groups the different ‘side’ options available in a combo (e.g. drinks). Combo slots are always linked to a combo and contain a set of items that the user can choose from in order to build their combo.
When you select a combo you know what main item you are going to get (e.g. Whopper) but not which options (sides and/or drinks), as there is a wide variety you can choose from. Combo Slots will host all the options for combos to make the interface more user friendly.
Combo documents in Sanity might not only be limited to Meals, they can also be part of the configuration of an offer. Learn more about offers here: Loyalty - Offers.
For more details about the pricing & availability configurations (including vendor configs / PLU setup), refer to Menu - Pricing & Availability Management.

Configuring Combo Slots
Guests are able to select one or multiple options with their meals. For example, a Medium Whopper® Meal comes with a medium drink and a medium sides. These options are configured via combo slots within Sanity. Most meals are provided with similar options. For example, selling Meals of a Whopper, Big King, or Double Cheeseburger will typically not change the fact that the same Sides (Fries, Onion Rings, etc.) and Drinks (Coca-Cola, Fanta, etc.) are offered. For that, we have created a simple way for you to configure Combo Slots that then can be mapped to your Combos. This way, you configure once your options and then apply them to all the different Combos, instead of adding the same drinks and sides one by one for every different Combo.
Combo Options
These are the options you can select with your Combo, you will configure these in the Combo Slots section and then apply to all the Combos you want. Following the examples defined for our Impossible Whopper® Medium Meal, see the image below for Option configurations:
Medium Combo Sides - what sides do you want to sell with your Medium Combo? In our case, we are selling it with Medium Classic Fries and Medium Onion Rings. We default to the Fries
Medium Combo Drinks - what drinks do you want to sell with your Medium Combo? In our case, we are selling the usual drinks our guests love, defaulted to Medium Coca-Cola.
Each Option under a given Combo Slot document in Sanity should be mapped to the corresponding Item. Upon clicking on a given option, maximum and minimum amounts can be configured.

Maximum Amount
This is the maximum combo slot options that are allowed for this combo slot to be fulfilled.
Note that minimum amount and maximum amount are typically both set to 1, because in most combos you would only allow one option (e.g. 1 drink and 1 side).

For configuring premiums, refer to Upselling, Add-Ons, Premiums & Recents | Premiums for detailed guidance.

The Distinction Between Bundles and Combos
Combos only have 1 main item.
Bundles (e.g. X2 Whopper Meals, Family Party with multiple burgers and sides, etc.) are a group of different items.
For bundles, main item is not configured. All items are configured as comboslots (combo options, or sides). Sanity doesn't allow configuring two main items for a single combo. In case of a bundle offer, the offer references a combo which does not have a main item. The combo options contain all the items — 2 whoppers, 2 fries, 2 medium drinks.
